Foundation Class - Entry level

Foundation classes are 20 hour classes for beginner and accomplished students with the desire to learn, how to safely manipulate and accurately fire their weapon systems for self-defense or for the defense of your loved ones. The participant will achieve a higher level of confidence and will learn necessary safety measures when using a defensive weapon for protection in defensive situations. Through utilization of demonstration, lecture, range procedure and practical use the student will be taught-

  • -Safe weapon handling (4 safety rules enforced)
  • -Fundamentals of marksmanship
    • Stance
    • Grip
    • Front sight focus
    • Trigger press
    • Trigger reset
  • -Multiple target engagement
  • -Accuracy at multiple distances
  • -Manipulation of the weapon system
    • Loading/Unloading/Reloading
    • Press checks
    • Draw from the holster
    • Malfunction clearances

3 separate weapon platforms can be chosen from. Each platform whether pistol, shotgun or carbine will be a separate class from one another. The 20-hour class will start at Alaska Tactical with an evening Friday lecture at 1800 hours. Two full days on the range will follow Saturday and Sunday from 0900 to 1700 hours.

Requirements

Students must have either a valid Alaska Concealed Carry Permit, provide current military or law enforcement identification, or have obtained a State of Alaska background check prior to participating in this training.

FOR ALL CLASSES YOU MUST HAVE- 
  • -Good attitude.
  • -Minimum 21 years of age
  • -Completed Application for Training.
  • -Appropriate clothing for weather - Ball cap, closed toe footwear, etc.
  • -Safety glasses and hearing protection 
REQUIREMENTS FOR PLATFORM SPECIFIC CLASS-

Pistol
  • - 600 Rounds of Ammo
  • - Full size Semi-Auto Handgun with at least 3 magazines
  • - Oustide the Waist band-Hip Holster and Magazine Pouch
Carbine
  • - 600 rounds of Ammo
  • - .223/556 or 7.62 Semi-Auto Carbine with at least 3 Magazines
  • - A good quality 2 point or 1 point sling
  • - Oustide the waist band magazine pouch or Chest magazine pouch or Thigh magazine pouch, all will be worn on support side.
Shotgun
  • - 300 rounds of 7 Bird shot/ 25 rounds of 00buck/ 25 rounds of slug
  • - 12 GA Pump action or Semi Auto Defensive Shotgun (Side saddle recommended, but not required)
  • - A good quality 2 point or 1 point sling
  • - Dump pouch or nylon bag that sits on the support hip to hold extra rounds.  Or magazine pouch if using magazines.
